José Pérez: Slowly replace infomercial programming for original content

Mega TVs current challenge in the U.S. is to slowly replace its infomercial programming for original content, and to expand its current programming schedule to a noon to midnight schedule with original programming and telenovelas.José Pérez, VP of Programming of Mega TV, said to PRODU: Mega has undergone a wonderful transformation. It started with a success and a novelty that won over our audiences hearts. Along the way, with the economic downturn, it started suffering like many other companies. These past few months we have turned it around in terms of our image, our production and our talent.Among the changes to come, Mega TV will have a new spicier space from 10pm to 10:30pm. From 10:30pm to 11pm will have a news show called Mega News followed by Mega Sports. Another change will come with the re-launch of Esta noche tu night con Álex Váldez, which will be completely overhauled starting this September in its 9pm slot.The next few years will see expansion. We will continue growing in the West Coast. We currently are in 11 markets and in the coming months we will announce the cities we are adding. We have a new Affiliate Relations person in Camilo Bernal. If we achieve this expansion, it will bring new viewers and a feed exclusively for the West Coast, said Pérez.
